DBMS

database is an organized collection of data. A database management system (DBMS) is system software for creating and managing databases. The DBMS provides users and programmers with a systematic way to create, retrieve, update and manage data. Well-known DBMSs include MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase and IBM DB2.

Oracle

Oracle is an object-relational database management system. The purpose of a database is to store and retrieve related information.

Written in Assembly language, C, C++

Oracle Universal Installer is a Java application that can handle complex requirements. The installation engine is easily portable across all Java-enabled platforms.

Microsoft SQL Server

Microsoft SQL Server is a relational database management system developed by Microsoft.

Written in C,C++

SQL Server is only available for Windows platforms. However, the SQL Server ODBC driver enables you to access SQL Server from applications running on Linux and UNIX platforms.

The ODBC driver for SQL Server allows native applications (C/C++) running on Linux to connect to SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2012, and Microsoft Azure SQL Database. With Microsoft ODBC Driver 13 (Preview) for SQL Server, SQL Server 2014 and SQL Server 2016 (Preview), are now also supported.

MySQL

MySQL is a database management system that allows you to manage relational databases. It is open source software backed by Oracle. MySQL is pretty easy to master in comparison with other database software like Oracle Database, or Microsoft SQL Server.

MySQL can run on various platforms UNIX, Linux, Windows, etc. You can install it in a server or even in a desktop.

IBM DB2

IBM DB2 is a family of database server products developed by IBM. According to IBM, DB2 leads in terms of database market share and performance.

Written in Assembly language, C, C++

PostgreSQL

PostgreSQL is open source object-relational database management system (ORDBMS). It has an extremely sophisticated query planner, which is capable of joining relatively large numbers of tables efficiently. MySQL, on the other hand, has traditionally focused on read-mostly web apps, usually written in PHP, where the principal concern is with optimizing simple queries.

Sybase

Sybase is an enterprise software and services company that produces software to manage and analyze information in relational databases. Sybase is a standalone subsidiary of SAP.

SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) is a high-performance relational database management system for mission-critical, data-intensive environments. It ensures highest operational efficiency and throughput on a broad range of platforms. ASE is the large scale enterprise database, and competes directly with Oracle 10g and IBM DB2. It is a row based storage RDBMS, suitable for On Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) as well as data storage and reporting.

Sybase IQ is a column-based, petabyte scale, relational database software system used for business intelligence, data warehousing, and data marts.
